The Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching course is the entry level qualification to launch your career as a Dance Teacher.
Dance teaching involves instructing students in dance performance, composition, safety in dance and dance appreciation.
You will also be promoting physical fitness, emotional well being and their creativity through dance.

The learner group for this qualification are people wishing to gain a qualification in order to work as an assistant dance teacher providing instruction for groups in a structured dance setting.
They work in a varied context in the private dance teaching industry, using some discretion and judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge.
The learner group are those who require a structured, classroom based program with significant practical experience.
This is an entry level course and no previous skills or experience are necessary. Experience of the dance industry is preferred but not essential.

The purpose of the LLN online test is to ensure that you have the LLN skills needed to undertake your course. It will also show how we can assist you in any areas where you may need help while studying with us.
The learners’ physical attributes may influence their ability to complete the training and assessment. Assessment and training requires students to be physically capable of performing a range of dance activities. Manual handling is also required.
Students need to be able to relate to children of differing ages and backgrounds, have a keen interest to assist students to learn to dance, have good problem solving skills, sound literacy and numeracy skills, be enthusiastic, tactful, patient and have a sense of humour.
The course is aimed at students 18 years of age and over.
This program is timetabled for 800 hours over a course duration of 40 weeks. This time is divided into both training (on campus and self-paced, distance) and assessment. Students will be required to attend the campus for 135 hours per term and engage in self-paced study of 65 hours per term. A term is typically 10 weeks.
The amount of training component is estimated at 80% of the students overall learning (540 hours) and the remaining 20% (260 hours) is attributed to self-directed distance learning and assessment. If required, students have the option to further extend their training hours with additional support classes, study groups and resits as published in the timetable.
The volume of learning refers to the total amount of time that a student would be expected to dedicate to successful completion of the course. It includes the structured part of the course as defined above, as well as the self-study, research and practicing of skills that a student would do in their own time. The total Volume of Learning is estimated at 1200 hours (800 structured hours and 400 unstructured). Some students may find that they need more study time and others will find that they can achieve the required level of knowledge and skills in less time than this estimate.
Training and Assessment
Your class room learning will take place in both theory classrooms and dance studios. This means your classes will have similar equipment, educational and physical resources to those you will find in a dance studio.
Where possible, students will be allocated to different studios throughout their course, in order to experience different levels of facilities and resources. This will mean that students are able to modify their dance classes based on the facilities available to them.
In your classes you can expect to take the role of student and instructor, engage in roleplays, create dance sessions and simulate learning activities that you will then put into practice in the workplace. You will learn and develop your knowledge to plan for your students’ care.
In addition, you will be required to undertake self-paced learning and submit written assessments. A number of practical and skills based assessments will be undertaken in class.
A first aid course is also part of this qualification.

In your classes you can expect to take the role of student and instructor, engage in roleplays, create dance sessions and simulate learning activities that you will then put into practice in the workplace. You will learn and develop your knowledge to plan for your students’ care.
In addition, you will be required to undertake self-paced learning and submit written assessments. A number of practical and skills based assessments will be undertaken in class.
A first aid course is also part of this qualification.
Practical Classes
You will undertake half of your timetabled study program in a dance studio or public school. In this practical you will be learning and practicing the skills you will be able to use in your own workplace. In order to successfully complete this component of your study, you will have to successfully complete a range of practical tasks and a practical exam.
Training Locations
Your training will occur on campus, and within a dance studio and school (maximum 30 minutes walking time).

If you are an experienced dancer and have a passion for teaching, this qualification is the perfect way to achieve your goals.
In addition to Dance Teaching specific topics, the course also covers important areas like nutrition and anatomy as well as the management of small businesses.
Graduates of this course will be able to work as unsupervised dance teachers as well as supervise others.

The learner group for this qualification are people wishing to gain a qualification in order to work in a variety of dance teaching contexts, including private dance studios. They may work for a dance studio or for themselves and provide leadership and guidance to others.
The learner group are those who require a structured, classroom based program with significant practical experience.
Entry to this course assumes the student holds the Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching or equivalent experience. To ensure we are able to support students progess throughout the course, those who wish to enter the Certificate IV Dance Teaching and Management without completing the Certificate III in Assistant Dance Teaching are required to submit the following:
